At the recent Carnegie Global Technology Summit, India’s emerging strength in the global semiconductor and electronics manufacturing ecosystem took center stage. A major point of discussion was the country's growing potential in Printed Circuit Board (PCB) assembly—a foundational pillar in the electronics manufacturing value chain.

India in the Global Spotlight for PCB Assembly

John Neuffer, President and CEO of the Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA), emphasized the need for a more diversified and resilient global semiconductor supply chain. He pointed to India as a high-potential destination in this shift, particularly for PCB manufacturing.

“It’s inevitable that we’re going to get more diversification of the supply chain... That creates opportunities for India to vacuum up more of our supply chain,” Neuffer stated at the summit.

This aligns closely with India’s own strategic goals. The government has set an ambitious target: expanding the electronics sector to $500 billion by 2030—with PCB assembly playing a crucial role in achieving this.

Strong Government Backing

India’s Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme has been a major driver in building domestic manufacturing capabilities. The policy incentivizes companies to produce electronics and components—including PCBs—locally, helping to reduce dependency on imports while creating high-skilled jobs.

Reports suggest that India is set to offer $4-$5 billion in incentives for local component manufacturing, aiming to strengthen domestic value chains and promote exports.

Market Growth and Emerging Players

India’s PCB market reached an estimated $4.53 billion in 2023, with expectations of rapid growth in the years ahead. Forecasts suggest a 30% compound annual growth rate (CAGR) in PCB assembly, with the sector potentially hitting $139 billion by 2030.

Among the companies aligning with this momentum is Mefron Technologies, which has made significant strides in the PCB assembly space. With a focus on innovation, quality, and global compliance, Mefron Technologies is contributing to India’s positioning as a reliable partner for high-quality electronics manufacturing.

Strategic Global Partnerships

Another highlight of the summit was the focus on US-India strategic collaboration through initiatives like TRUST (Transforming the Relationship Utilizing Strategic Technology). This initiative, launched during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s US visit, aims to deepen cooperation in semiconductors and other critical technologies.

Such partnerships open the door for India to not only serve domestic demand but also become a global hub for electronics and PCB assembly.

Final Thoughts

The Carnegie Global Technology Summit served as a key indicator of where the world is headed—and India is clearly on the radar. With visionary policy, growing industrial capability, and increasing international support, India is set to become a cornerstone of the global PCB assembly and electronics manufacturing ecosystem.
